Diablo IV is Blizzard Entertainment's always-online action RPG set in Sanctuary. You create a seasonal or Eternal character, fight through the campaign, then loop The Pit, Helltides, World Bosses, and expansion activities with cross-play turned on. A Battle.net account and a live internet connection are required on every store, including Steam. Season of Hell's Legacy went live on September 15, 2026 with patch 3.2.1 build 73552. Steam is offering the base game free until September 21, 2026 at 10 a.m. PT, with all classes and leveling to 30; that window is a timed promotion, not a permanent free-to-play change.

What Diablo IV is
Diablo IV is a shared-world action RPG: you pick a class, push a campaign through Sanctuary, then spend most of a season in endgame loops rather than a one-and-done story. Cross-play and cross-progression cover the live stores. Steam lists Windows as the PC OS and marks macOS and Linux false, so the PC install is a Windows Battle.net session even when you buy the Steam SKU.
Two expansions sit on top of the launch SKU. Vessel of Hatred adds Spiritborn, Nahantu, Mercenaries, and the Dark Citadel. Lord of Hatred adds Paladin, Warlock, Skovos, War Plans, the Horadric Cube, and Echoing Hatred, and the Lord of Hatred purchase already contains Vessel of Hatred. Nintendo Switch 2 ships the Age of Hatred Collection with the base game plus both expansions.
What to do this week
If you do not own the game, the Steam free window is the shortest path onto live realms: install, create a Battle.net account, and play through level 30 with the current class roster. The promotion ends September 21, 2026 at 10 a.m. PT. After that, the store price returns to a paid SKU. Seasonal characters from a free window keep the usual seasonal rules once the window closes.
If you already own Diablo IV, start a seasonal character and open Season of Hell's Legacy. Waking Nightmares replay Diablo I–III memories, Soul Splinters socket Prime Evil and jewelry gems, and about 15 percent of the season rank track, including Rank VIII rewards, wants Lord of Hatred. The rest of the season runs on the base game plus whatever expansion you already own.
Stores, names, and the official trailer
Steam is app 2344520 with a October 17, 2023 SKU date. Battle.net is required on that purchase and on every console store. Xbox Wire lists Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PlayStation for Lord of Hatred. Nintendo Switch 2 sells the Age of Hatred Collection with both expansions. The NetEase hub at d4.blizzard.cn titles the game 《暗黑破坏神IV》. Japanese, Korean, and Traditional Chinese official hubs use ディアブロ IV, 디아블로 IV, and 《暗黑破壞神IV》.
The framed trailer on this hub is the official Season of Hell's Legacy gameplay video on the Diablo YouTube channel, video 2L55dgNzpQ8. Use it as the motion brief for Waking Nightmares and Soul Splinters, then jump to the season ledger for the three Nightmare sizes and the splinter roster. The live official social account confirmed here is @Diablo on X.
Three player paths from this hub
New on Steam this week: follow Getting started, spend the free window through level 30, and decide whether Standard or an expansion is the receipt you want after September 21, 2026 at 10 a.m. PT. Already owned: create a seasonal character and open Season of Hell's Legacy. Shopping an expansion: compare Vessel of Hatred and Lord of Hatred, remembering that the second includes the first.
Class choice sits on the eight-row roster plus the announced Amazon. Endgame choice sits on the eleven-row activity table. Splinter choice sits on the eleven-row socket ledger. This hub stamps the live season, the free-play clock, and the official trailer so those three ledgers have a dated front door.
